Sigma Mathematics Workbook 'Focus on Mathematics’ is a write-on student resource.
This book contains notes and practice questions on mathematical methods across the Number, Measurement, Algebra and Geometry strands at Level 6 of the Mathematics Curriculum. The internal assessment achievement standard, 1.2 Mathematical Methods and the external examination achievement standard 1.4 Mathematical Reasoning have a considerable overlap with regards to the methods, with the majority of them potentially featuring on either assessment.
Students are able to and encouraged to use a calculator in their learning and assessment for these standards. A graphing calculator of the type on the approved NZQA list is an advantage. Instructions in this book relate to the Casio fx-9750 GIII.
In this workbook students will find clear explanations and detailed worked examples showing what is required at each step of the mathematical methods cycle. At the end of the workbook there are Practice Exam Questions.
A full set of answers is included, which acts as a guide to structuring quality answers. An abbreviated version of the Achievement Criteria and Explanatory Notes of the Achievement Standard itself complete the resource.
Topics Covered in this Workbook Include :
- Number
- Measurement
- Geometry and Space
- Algebra
- Practice Investigations / Papers
The Sigma Workbook 'Focus on Mathematics' is best bought before the standards are taught at school and used throughout the topics as a classroom and homework resource. Alternatively, the workbook would make an excellent independent study resource in the lead-up to the internal assessment of Achievement Standards 1.2 and 1.4.
Once completed, 'Focus on Mathematics' provides a useful set of revision notes at assessment time. It can be kept as a reference book if students intend taking a Year 12 Mathematics course.
